About PSBMT

The Philippine Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (PSBMT) is a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of Filipino specialist physicians who are duly-trained in the conduct of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). It was organized mainly to promote and develop the rational and evidence-based use of blood and marrow transplantation in the treatment of various hematologic and non-hematologic diseases in the Philippines. The society is recognized and accredited by the country’s Professional Regulations Commission and was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission last March 9, 2016.

The Organization
Objectives
  • To maintain an organization of qualified and competent Filipino specialists in the field of BMT.

  • To promote the rational and evidence-based use of BMT in the treatment of various hematologic and non-hematologic diseases.

  • To establish appropriate training program with a certification system in the field of BMT.

  • To collaborate with various hematology and medical oncology training institutions within the country and help provide BMT training opportunities to their respective trainees.

  • To promote the exchange of knowledge about BMT through continuing medical education, research and publication.

  • To collaborate with patients and their families, various government and non-government organizations in order to improve care of patients requiring BMT.

  • To steer the setting up of a national BMT recipient and outcome registry as well as a registry of blood and marrow stem cell donors.

  • To collaborate with international organizations related to blood and marrow transplantation.

Plan of Activities
  • Assist interested hematologists and oncologists in getting HSCT training abroad.

  • Actively participate in the annual meetings of the Philippine Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (PSHBT) and Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO).

  • Develop HSCT educational materials for physicians and patients.

  • Hold workshops to develop the HSCT training curriculum and the certification methodology.

  • Hold regular scientific congress such as: annual convention, round table discussions and research fora.

  • Collaborate with the Philippine Health Insurance, Inc., (PHILHEALTH) and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to subsidize a portion of the cost of BMT.

  • Collaborate with Department of Health (DOH), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in writing the National Guideline for HSCT and the National Standards for the collection, processing, and infusion of hematopoietic stem cells.

  • Develop a format in reporting the annual transplant activities of the accredited BMT centers.

    Develop a national registry for unrelated hematopoietic stem cell donors.
